It has been a really slow season here in Thomas County. Went a few times during bow season (should call it mosquito season) and saw nothing. Hunted hard during early youth with my son, hoping he would strike 1st, and saw nothing. Opening weekend of regular gun we hunted morning and eve, and guess what we saw nada. During the next week and week end we did actually see a deer a couple of times but it was a little button buck. Well I figured after the rain last night that this morning they would move. I got in the stand about 6:45 and settled in to wait on shooting time. Around 7:15 or so I looked down the plot with the binos and saw something out of place. Looked again and something moved. Hot dang a deer! I kept looking at my phone to see what time it was and hoping it would get light soon to tell what it was. it started to leave a few minutes before shooting time so I grunted once. It stopped and turned around. He came back out and started feeding again(by now I could see it was a buck) Looked at the phone again and it was legal time. I got my gun up and waited for my shot. Now usually I'm calm but my heart was hammering away in my chest from watching him for so long. ...Calm down breathe... ...breathe.... BOOM. dropped him in his tracks with my .243. 140# 5pt. felt like I just shot a monster. God is good and provides for us. We were out of meat and now we are not. ...........
That just awesome, congrats!!
Took my younger dauther hunting for the second time last Thursday and there has been so much activity (picking cotton & peanuts & bush hoggin the Power Line) out at our huntin land, I expected very little activity!! Got up in the power line stand with her so we could see a good ways and since they mowed it, I picked up 300 yds+ of visibility! 30 min before dark a big body deer moved out of the shadows and into the Power Line! It was a dang good buck, with good mass, and a shooter for sure! We watched him at 298 yds for 5-6 min as he took his time crossing the PL and it was exciting for the both of us!!
