Left the dock at 7:00 with 2 other boats to try to catch some grouper for the first time in 6 months. We got to our first spot only to be greeted by a boat with a dive flag up ......oh well. Headed off to the next waypoint and wouldn't you know that somebody was there too !!!! What a way to start the day! We decided to go on out to the farthest waypoint and this time it was "open." We dropped down a few LY's but all that was biting were the grunts. After 30 minutes or so, we decided to troll a red/white stretch 30. About 5 minutes into the troll, BAM, a 23" gag. Dropped it out again and BAM, another 23" gag. Dropped out again and BIZZZZZZZZ......after 10 minutes or so we got the fish to the stern and with one quick bolt, it was gone......a nice king! Oh well We trolled for a bit on our way back in but only got broke off. We stopped off at one more "rock bass hole" and literally filled the cooler in a matter of 30 minutes. They were hitting the squid before it even got to the bottom. We got back to the dock at 1:30 just before the t-storms started to roll in.
Trolled between 50 - 68 ft. The red/white stretch 30 seems to work the best out there. We were going to tie on the 50+, but they were so active with the 30 that we just stayed with it. I've only caught 4-5 grouper on the 50+, but they have all been BIG!
