Fish finder screen protectors?

Post by Rhettley »

I recently got a Lowrance Elite 5 HDI. It doesn't have any kind of cover for the screen and looking at the Lowrance site, ebay, etc., I can't find one of the snap on covers. I'm wondering if they don't make one for the Elite 5 model.

I did run across these little things though. It's basically the same screen protector you use on a cell phone but is cut to fit the specific screen. I've used the Zag model on my cell phone and it was great. Has anyone used these? How did they hold up? Did it make any difference on being able to view the screen? These say they have a lifetime warranty for free replacement.

I've got these on my Garmin 720 and Lowrance HDS 12. So far so good and a worthwhile investment IMHO. You can find them on fleabay as well.

Rhettley,
It looks like they do make one. It is a little expensive but if you need the protection I guess it is worth it.

It seems to make a big difference on Google if you use "sun cover" instead of "screen protector"... I didn't think to try that term. The Lowrance site I looked at didn't have them either but then that site didn't have any plugs, wires, or other accessories.
The "sun covers' are a bit pricy it seems to me for just a snap on plastic cover. I'm not sure it's worth it since the unit is put into a box from an older Eagle I have when the boat goes onto the trailer. While it's on the boat I have it turned on the whole time. I'm thinking the screen protector film might actually be more useful for me.
