"Because one spot is for slackers!"
I caught this guy amongst the scads of trout in the St Marks river on Thanksgiving. I'm thinking there's some speckled trout mixed in there. Or maybe some Dalmatian.

Interesting! How many trout did you catch?

With three of us in the boat we landed about 120 specks before 2:30 p.m. (I had a video camera running for 45 minutes, and we caught 50 trout in just that time!!) Average was around 12 inches, but there were two or three 17ers mixed in there. Only got two or three reds. All short.John Sivyer wrote:Interesting! How many trout did you catch?
It was a really fun day fishing, and totally worth braving the cold. Nothing beats fishing three deep with everyone hooked up at the same time!

Wow! Sounds like a great way to spend Thanksgiving. What were you using for bait?

I caught most of mine bouncing green/silver soft plastics slowly along the bottom with heavy jig heads. The fish were really hugging the bottom on the edges of the river channel, so use whatever weight it takes to get down there. 1/2 oz is probably a good starting point. These were mostly specks in the 12-inch range, but the sheer volume of hook ups made it a lot of fun.John Sivyer wrote:Wow! Sounds like a great way to spend Thanksgiving. Wednesday I put my yak in at Shell Island Fish Camp and fished the holes from there down to where the abandoned boat is tied off. No Joy! It was much warmer than when you were there last week though so I'm guessing they moved further down the river.
