Over the one week antlerless season I’ve taken my two kids out a number of times looking for venison. My 12 year old daughter & I have enjoyed some memorable hunts. One hunt last week we watched a small buck a bit too far out for her to shoot (160 yards) and also got to watch a fat 2 ½ foot diamond back rattlesnake slither out 20 feet away from us and watch it slowly parallel us across an open area in the course of 30 minutes. Then there was the single hen turkey that came out 200 yards away and walked to within 5 yards of us in a blind. Plenty of armadillos that seem to be everywhere-one she got to push around with a stick. Also saw some hogs she passed on as we were focused on deer. Very cool.
Last Tuesday we had a doe and its yearling come up on the unexpected side of the blind not 20 yards away only for Kaitlyn to be a few seconds too late getting on the sticks before it entered the woods. Hoping they would come back out again, 20 minutes later they did. Weaving in and out of the woods we lost the larger deer for about 5 minutes then she finally stepped out and at 50 yards Kaitlyn dropped her second deer. That was a ton of FUN!!

In the dark I kinda cropped out the top…..

Camera on the timer

Happy times!
Love these hunts with the kids!
