Garmin G2 Bluecharts
Does anyone have any experience with the Garmin G2 Bluecharts? I am looking at a new unit with the bluechart preloaded and want to know how detailed the chart is. Does it show the creek names, landings, etc?

It is fairly detailed - unless it changed only major creeks and landings are labeled. But, you can label them yourself. I'm running a Humminbird currently & I prefer (miss) the detail of garmin maps over the navionics saltwater maps I currently have
Re: Garmin G2 Bluecharts
I have GPS units with both Navionics and G2...
I started with the G2 so I'm more comfortable with them.
No chart is going to show you everything but they are very detailed.

For this area the pre-loaded chart has good detail. Don't waste your money on the upgraded Garmin chart for this area. There isn't any more detail that isn't already on the standard map.
Re: Garmin G2 Bluecharts
I have the charts in my unit and it does give better detail than the preloaded one. It shows grass lines, oyster bars and rocky areas and hard bottom with more detail. When drifting it helps me to see what type of bottom I am catching fish on. Is it worth the cost. I think so but that is your call. The additional safety factor itself might be worth the cost. (dodging rocks)

I can only tell you what my program does on my GPS. Some of the preloaded programs might be better than mine but the difference is obvious on my unit.

For near inshore (1 mile out or less) fishing Garmin's TOPO Southeast is better than its Bluecharts.

Also the TOPO shows the back creeks and rivers better than the Bluechart. I carry a hand held with the TOPO maps when fishing up in the creeks.Luv2Yak wrote:For near inshore (1 mile out or less) fishing Garmin's TOPO Southeast is better than its Bluecharts.

I appreciate all the feedback. I ordered the new unit and look forward to trying it out soon. It has to be much more detailed than my old (8 years) unit.
Thanks for the reviews

I have a Garmin G2 card and I haven't used it in a year. The preloaded chart works fine in the Panama City area.
