What is the Closest to Shore Someone has Caught Mahi?

Many years ago I caught a 10 lb mahi while trolling in a spanish mac school just past the sea buoy at Panacea. When he jumped, I could not believe it.

Maybe if we all wear bikinis out on our boats, we can entice them closer to our area!

I am not sure it would be worth seeing Woopty in a bikini just to catch a Mahi.

That is a strange mental image, isn't it? Woopty, better stick to cobia.

Last year we got into a lot of peanuts about 3 - 5 miles off Mexico Beach, they were staying with/under small grass/weed patches, the bigger the patch the more peanuts were around. We'd ease up to them and toss 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz Spro jigs with light spinning gear, not sure why but they absolutely loved the Bunker color over anything else. We would also just idle/drift along the edges if the wind was right "trolling" the jigs, my girls loved it to the point they didn't want to go snapper fishing.

Many years ago.....mid 90s.... I was partying over night on p. C beach pier and helped a guy reel in a pretty big mahi. I drug it ashore for him. I wanna say two years later I saw a guy catch a decent sized one under the bridge at sgi.
Haven't heard of any that close since.
