Again, west is best.
While living in Pensacola I caught red snapper on jigs up to 10 pounds within a cast of the NAS sea plane ramps in Pensacola Bay. There is a lot of structure in the deeper parts of the bay. I have also heard about snapper landed near the pass jetties as well as off the Ft. Pickens fishing pier.
Reds are also common off artificial reefs along the Panhandle beaches from Mexico Beach all the way to Orange Beach, Alabama. Those spots get a lot of pressure, though.

Again Mexico Beach, have caught some smaller ones at the close in artificial reefs say 5 - 6 miles, those spots get hammered pretty good because you can get to them in just about anything that will float. We caught some keeper ARS at a spot that was a 13 mile run but only about 10 miles off the beach. My best spots so far are 20 - 22 miles out but only on a good weather day.

Pensacola Pass, waters 40+ ft hold RS. Guides seem to know how/where to catch them routinely.
Once you reach 60' of water ANYWHERE in the GOM, during April - November, you are entering RS habitat. If 90' of water is within another 5-6 miles, that's even better. Carrabelle to Cape San Blas will provide all of the above within a 15-20mi of the shoreline.
As always, the best spots to catch them are places where no one was fishing the previous day, week, or month!

I don't know if it counts but I've caught little bitty baby red snapper in the buoy line at MB using sabikis. We've chummed them up on wrecks and reefs in 40 feet of water out of MB. Most were small and just short or just barely legal though and in that bright clear water you pretty much had to use a 20 pound leader or they wouldn't touch it.

In about 35 foot of water not far from the 2k reef after telling my buddy that real reds couldn't be caught this close in--he nailed an18 incher-go figure.
