bman,
I have some that you could have, but I"m a good little ways away from you.
I have a friend in Appalach that sells firewood and he has lots of it.
You will like smoking with pecan.

Re: Pecan Wood for Smoking??
A couple weeks ago you could have got all you wanted around me. The pecan farmers are pruning and culling trees right now, if you know of any down that way, check with them.
Re: Pecan Wood for Smoking??
What are you looking for soaking wood or split wood? I have a lot of it in Arkansas. If I make a trip soon I will bring you some. In the meantime if you can't find any you can get it on ebay. Better yet I have a buddy coming down next week if you just need some small stuff to soak I could have him bring it.

No pecan, Bman, but a ton, and I do mean at LEAST A TON of hickory. Limb about 30' long and the size of my waist split off the main trunk recently. Limb is about the size of a big live oak limb. Fresh enough it's still got buds with leaves opening on it. Want any before I cut up the limb for firewood, it's out at the new place.

Try Walmart. I use their hickory chunks, which are around 5 bucks for a 10 pound bag I believe. I'm relatively sure they also carry pecan chunks.

I'd take some Hickory for my dad too. It will be a while before I get out that way still, but if Barry wanted to pick some up for me while getting his own load, I know I'll see him....
If you don't want to pick any up either Barry, that's fine too....but if it's just being tossed away, I could find a home for some of it

Pecan is a cousin to hickory so it will be good. Seems like you have found enough but I have some we are using for church functions and it does good. I think you will like it!

Re: Pecan Wood for Smoking??
Have done a little research on BBQ sites previously about different woods to use for smoking and learned a little I'll pass on. As I understand it, nut woods are good for red meats, fruit woods good for white meats. When I did research was looking to see about Bradford Pear tree in particular, comments was that is was similar to Apple wood. Have been using it for over a year now on both red and white meats and like it. I have lots of pecan and quit using it nearly as much now

What is wrong wild cherry?
I was teasing Danibeth because a house she is looking had trees taken down and now there are several big cherry logs stacked with oak at her lot.
Its local so is that wild cherry??

Re: Pecan Wood for Smoking??
Guess I'm sitting on a smoker's gold mine. In addition to the massive hickory limb I've got down, have 50 big Bradford pears I have been pruning after years of neglect (having to cut out some pretty big branches out of each tree). Have burned truckloads of it in piles in recent week
