Keaton Beach 3/22-3/23

Post by ddb »

Fished two days with a friend and picked up our two man limit of trout each day. Could have used a third, but all my fishing buds were chasing turkeys. We had a 'consistent' bite of around one fish per half hour on the falling tide on day one in 2.5', then finished out the day well with a good solid bite at the end of the rise in the afternoon. Most of the first set were collected on gulp new penny sea shads, most of the second on plugs. Day two we worked the oyster bars for the first couple of hours of the day, then moved out a bit into 4' and found a solid bite during the falling tide (what little there was). Most of those were picked up on shrimp, with a couple thrown in on plugs and gulps. All in all, two great days on the weather. Water temps varied from 68 to 71. Couldn't find a redfish, although we tried.

Thanks for the good report.

We were down at Keaton Friday and caught a three man limit. However, we found them in 6 to 4 foot water. Seems they might have been feeding on something and not holding to a certain spot. I say that because when we found them everyone had a trout. When we made another drift in the same spot they were gone. Four inch white shrimp with chart tails seemed to be the bait of choice.

Good to know you found them up close.
