RedTide

Post by wevans »

Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected in background concentrations in four samples collected from inshore waters of Bay and Gulf counties this week.

Additional samples collected throughout the state of Florida this week did not contain red tide.

Tables and maps of sample results are available on our Web site: (http://myfwc.com/research/redtide/event ... statewide/).

The website also provides links to additional information related to the topic of Florida red tide including satellite imagery, experimental red tide forecasts, shellfish harvesting areas, the FWC Fish Kill Hotline, the Florida Poison Information Center (to report human health effects related to exposure to red tide), and other wildlife related hotlines: (http://myfwc.com/research/redtide/event ... s/contact/).

Unless I'm reading the charts wrong, IS good. Background readings fall within the same measure/rating as "not present". Thinking Wevans may have been sharing for the purpose of letting folks know how to follow going forward. I check the same site from spring through late fall.

Finding background concentrations is not at a level expected to harm wildlife and humans but you would rather find none at all. Hope this is not something that blooms this summer.
