Lighthouse boat ramp CLOSED 3/28
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that there was a sign posted as you went into the refuge that the boat ramp at the lighthouse will be closed this Friday 3/28.
Re: Lighthouse boat ramp CLOSED 3/28
Its only closed Friday- it will be back open on Saturday.
They are having a ceremony transferring ownership of the lighthouse from the US Coastguard to the US Fish and Wildlife service

Found this on another site. Interesting....
-----
In 2000, the Coast Guard spent $150,000 to repair and stabilize the lighthouse. Congress passed an act in June 2006 that transferred the lighthouse from the Coast Guard to the Fish and Wildlife Service, however, the transfer could not be completed until lead-contaminated soil around the lighthouse was removed. Historic St. Marks Lighthouse and the surrounding eight acres were finally transferred to the Fish and Wildlife Service on October 10, 2013.
