Let me tell you now. I got skunked. My partner did not, we were back safe so I guess that is all that matters.
Left the fort with a late start at 0900. Had stopped at Jerrys for 4DZ. Took my NY neighbor with me this time. 4 trailers at the fort. We hit SSW of the bird rack about 1000 in 10-11’, water temp 84. Water clarity somewhere between split pea and just muddy or turbid. Seas 1-3. Winds from wsw at about 10. Shifted later from W at about 1130 to S at 1230. Went East to SSE of the LH, no bites, Saw the man once in the airboat, he headed east, not at all interested in us. Talked with the USCG as they were replacing # 37 that had blown away. Good folks.
Ain’t a freaking thing happening today in deep water. We decided to go to the bars at noon because it started to turn from 1-2 to 2-3 and very strong out of the SW. Whitecapping in the river. Live shrimp were the trick, cuz I tried everything my neighbor did not try: We sat, if you can believe it, out of the LH channel and here is what we got:
I thought the water might be a bit stained after the storm. Sounds like it has the reds stirred up, too. That's some nice fish, DB. Would you rather have been working?
Yes, I would have rather been working than to put a NY boy on the reds.
j/k
I would gladly put anyone on them, it was awesome. The guy had never caught a red before in his life. Now he has two in 30 or so minutes to my 0. No problem, that is what is it all about. You gotta love the after storm effect. Come on Ivan and get this over with!!!
we were sittin exactly ......
live shrimp on a red 1/4 oz. sureketch jighead(a NY thang). Oyster bars abundant in the areas, but these were caught in "holes" around the bars. Gulf side of that jetty/bar = blues, north side of that jetty/bar = reds. Seen lots of people wade there. hint, hint.
My bud pretty much just let the bait sit on the bottom. No action, just bottom fishing like you would for catfish. The current was fickle. north, south, still. The current and wind were not in alignment. these were caught in about 6-9 feet of muddy moving water.
Great job DB.
Nice picture, but it looks a little sideways...
I was in the office all day long and wish I could have been out there.
Sounds like the morning was better with less wind.
Thanks for the hints!!
Thanks !
MJ
