One of my best friends bought himself a Key Largo a month ago and had finally got all the kinks worked out of it and was ready for some salt. The wife and I met him and his gf around 8 and were ready to launch by 9:30. Went to pull out of the canal at the lighthouse and holy crap !! It was easy 3 foot swells and blowing 25+ mph and we hadn't even made it to the channel yet. To prevent from capsizing the 16' bay boat, we quickly switched gears and pounded our way up the east river to try and get out of it. Fished up there till about 2pm with only a few catfish and a 13" mangrove snapper to show for. The wind finally laid off to 15 mph so we said the hell with it and ran east. Hit and few creeks and Audry caught her first Redfish and Cody put his first red on his new boat. Both Reds were about 20". After that we ran out and fished 4-5 feet of water. On our second drift Audry hooked a pig at about 23". Next drift Cody hooked a 22.5" trout . We ended up with 7 keepers and several shorts in about 1.5 hours of drifting in the howling wind. We got rocked a bit on the way back to ramp but made it in safely. Not sure if anyone else went today but I hope everyone stayed safe, that was some
nasty stuff this morning.
