Oyster Bay 5/17
After all the redfish reports from last Saturday, I couldn't stand it and had to go check on them. I called fishingrodd and we went down after lunch. We launched the boat and the wind was much stronger than the 3 mph predicted. We made a short run with no luck and then decided to fight the whitecaps to try another one of my spots. We fished gulp and pinfish and it was really slow for us. We had a couple of ladyfish bites and saw the largest sea turtle I have ever seen. I managed a 17" flounder to get the skunk off the boat. Tried to reproduce that, but could not. We moved again with no luck and finally ran closer to home. We made one drift and I caught a 17" trout, lost 2 good ones at the net, caught 3 shorts and fishingrodd had 2 more shorts. Just as quickly, the bite died again. We hit one osyter bar on the way home trying to eke out my inshore slam, but no redfish were home. Nice to be back on the water. Water was 76 and still very stained. Fished water from 3-8 feet.
