Reef / Wreck anchor.

Post by dstockwell »

OK, the current anchor I have is not gonna work on anything that has alot of structure, chances are its gonna hang forever. Has anyone made one or if not anywhere on-line to get one. Have seen where some folks used 1/2 rebar, and pipe filled with something to weigh it down with.

You can do that Don, or you can drill a hole in the fluke end of the shank and attach the chain there and attach the chain with zip ties.

In normal seas you can get by with one or two 6 X 1/4 ties. You can also use 100 pound test, or cotton twine. The twine would be biodegradable.

Tom has a great idea, but if you would rather buy one new, I believe RMS in Medart sells grappling style anchors already rigged that way. You just add zip ties. :-D

The easiest and most convenient solution is to take a diver with you who can release it for you if it gets stuck. Right Tom?

RMS does have the grappling anchors made to use that way for less than $25.

Mike's Marine in Panacea had some with the aluminum prongs the last time I was in there. I use that type and have been pleased with it
