My son and I spent a long weekend fishing at Shell Island and did fairly well with the fish.
Saturday - Ended up with 8 trout between 16 and 20 inches. Took us all day to get em. All fish were caught over on the west side and were in 2-3 feet early and 5-6 feet late in the day. Had to find the grassy areas near the deeper channels to catch fish once it got hot. Everything was caught on white gulp.
Sunday and Monday - Did well both mornings on subsurface Mirrolures over grass in 2-3 feet then it would completely shut down until the tide started coming in in the afternoon. At this point we would switch back to gulps under corks and find the deeper water. It was pretty hot these two days and we would have to work the 6-8 feet range.
I have never seen the water as flat and calm as it was Sunday and Monday. The water clarity was pretty good once you got away from the mouth.
