Question for Ga boat owners

I am going to Pensacola and possibly buying a boat tomorrow. I forgot what all it will take to get it and the trailer registered in Ga. I know a bill of sale, but what else?

To register the trailer in your county of residency all I had to do was have a bill of sale and then purchase the tag for the trailer. Remember in Georgia now if you buy any vehicle, motorcycle, boat etc..... you will have to pay the taxes on that purchase then all tags are just $20 or $25. Hope this helps.

Actually, it is easy for any trailer up to 2000 lbs. Above 2000lbs they want to see a title and title transfer. If you don't have one, the only way to register is to register as homemade, which requires a stop by the sheriff for verification that you attached the serial number tag the county gave you and that it appears homemade. Rarely any trouble, but any sheriff could deny it is homemade and then you are in a pickle.

I just registered one over 2000lbs, but I had the Flordia title executed by the seller and my county tag office was fine with that.

Whats the bigger buzzkill ... hearing about it now or hearing about it after you get to the tag office and finding out you don't have what it takes.

This boat is financed in Ga, so no title. Do I need the BOS to be notarized?

I know you have to pay sales taxes on automobiles, trailers, things with wheels. When did it start on private boat sales?

I am taking possession in Fla. The boat is registered in Alabama.

The guy I am buying from is a football coach, moves around a lot.

Get notarized bill of sale. Do a separate bill of sale for the trailer to save on taxes when buying your tag. I always get 3 one for outboard too!

Biggest thing is to download the Georgia Boat Sale Bill of Sale online and get it completely filled out, otherwise you will have problems registering your boat in Georgia. You can do a separate bill of sale for the trailer, but I've never seen anyone do a separate one for the motor, but you can. Notary is not required, but it is preferred.
