Wakulla Volcano
I got this forwarded to me in an e-mail. It's a very interesting read, but too long to post here. You'll have to download the pdf to your computer to read it. It's a non-fiction account of the search for pirate treasure and the long forgotten Wakulla Volcano.

I've explored that island on the pinhook.
Awesome place littered with midden.
Easy to imagine treasure buried there.
Here's more.

Re: Wakulla Volcano
Very fun read. While such a "volcano" sounds surprising, hundreds of similar long-burning fires (versus true erupting volcanoes) are going on around the world today. Two instantly come to mind. The "Door to Hell" fire burning in the Karakol desert in Turkmenistan (40+ years) and the Centralia mine fire in Pennsylvania (50+ years). The Centralia fire, while not as visually impressive (underground with smoke venting from ground) is especially creepy as poison gases / ground collapses have created a modern day Pennsylvania ghost town and some scientist predict that the coal fire may burn for several more centuries.
For those who haven't seen the "door to hell" in Turkmenistan, pretty amazing sight.

Re: Wakulla Volcano
Awesome story guess the mystery with never be solved! I do think that the gas vent idea is the most valid idea to me
Re: Wakulla Volcano
Thanks for that. That was cool to read. I have always liked treasure. Have always thought it would be cool to be a treasure hunter. I could see the gas vent being a real thing.
