A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
School me on Lake Blackshear. We will be there this weekend for a Triathlon, and I figured I would drag the boat up. (19’ Wellcraft Center Console) We will be staying at the resort, and I will be keeping the boat in the water at the Marina at the resort.
I have never been to Lake Blackshear, and am curious of any hazards I need to watch out for (stumps, etc). I have read that the stumps are along the west shore of the lake for the most part. We will be cruising for the most part as this will be the first time on the boat for my 5 month old. Then later in the day the boys may sneak off for a little fishing. Not looking to get skinny or into any underwater objects.
The Lake south of the railroad trestle that crosses the main lake is pretty clear of stumps. The area that has stumps is along the west side of the lake and is pretty clearly marked. If you run the middle or the east edge of the lake south of the RR you should be good to go. It's pretty packed on the weekend, so follow the primary traffic and watch out for kids on tubes, skis, etc. There's a sand bar mid-way down the lake on the east side that people congregate on. Have fun.
If you go N under the tressel and under hwy 280 bridge, stay between the bouy markers and you can go up to where the river gets narrow and see a bluff or two. Just N of the bridge, go past the island on the left and then take a left into Spring Creek. At the end of Spring Creek is Booger Bottom. Get a cheese burger there. Stay on the left side of Spring Creek going to Booger Bottom.
You can go S all the way to the power dam, then you can take a left and go into Swift Creek. There is good fishing at end of Swift Creek, and end of Cedar creek and Collins branch. I believe Evans Outdoors on hwy 280 before you get to Cordele will have a map. Oh, across Boy Scout slough, there is a small entrance by boat to the Blue Hole. You can swing off a rope or just jump in from the boat in the spring fed water. You'll see all kinds of folks there....
The depth going into Spring Creek varies. Turn left into middle and North and work your way to the South side of the creek and just idle on to Booger Bottom. Please report on how the cheeseburger and hospitality is.
