Met up with 2true and his buddy at 2trues inland shrimp netting spot about 7 AM yesterday morning as they were finishing up getting several dozen for bait. We caravanned off to 2trues spot in St. Teresa.
As I crossed the Ochlockonee Bridge, I was awestruck at how calm and beautiful the Bay looked: it was smooth as glass and the sunrise colors were very subtle but completely covered the water with pinks and blues. I could see a couple of boats off outside the mouth of the Bay, fishing the oyster bars. I am going to have to get the boat out there soon!
I had to floor it to keep up with 2true on Hwy. 98, but could see that Alligator Bay was just as beautiful, as I whizzzed by.
2true and his buddy are a lot of fun to fish with. There was never a dull moment! This guy is rigged in the gear department too! With the help of several nicely home-made, long-spiked sand-spike rod holders of his, we were able to try all sorts of baits at once. Indeed, 2true and his buddy, between the two of them, had the bait net going constantly. The buddy actually netted two or three short redfish in the process, raising our hopes of catching a keeper with a hook!
The conversation was energetic too, with 2true giggin' me and his buddy good, in a good natured way, amongst all the lies and adventures that were being shared.
He told me I should change my log-in or screen name to "gaff top!" That ought to end the report on my successes yesterday.
I caught, oh I dunno, five catfish?? [DS's] Six?
We fished the falling tide. The water was smooth and very murky, like weak coffee with cream. There was stuff suspended in the water.
There was a also lady fish, caught by 2true,and 2true got a short red which he also promptly fileted for bait. JUST KIDDING!
By about noon the tide was really low. The fish were swishin' and 2true netted a full sized mullet [thanks!]. but I was ready to head back to town.
I left them at it, thinking I'd see a report here, last night or this morning, about how they got a cobia, right after I left, on one of the pinfish they netted. Not having seen his report yet, I am fairly confident that I can report that I got more DS's than 2true and his buddy put together.

Shrimp Catchin
Find a channel in a bay with a smaller channel say 20 ft wide. Take DOG FOOD! you heard me
(we have had some luck with poking cans of dog food with a screw driver) mix it with sand and the shrimp can't wait to eat it.
Best time to go is about an hour before sunrise.
This also may help look for where people crab.
Use your cast net to throw over on the shrimp. Bring lights too.
I ate some of the shrimp we caught so yummy.
And another thing they make really good bait the stay alive forever. I caught my 38 inch redfish on one of those shrimp last weekend.
