My dad in Georgia Sportsman

Post by bman »

Had to share this photo from an April 1982 article in Georgia Sportsman
This is my dad holding a big bass from "Lake Blackshear" except it was really from Piney Z in Tallahassee.
He was buddies with the photographer ;-)

Gotta watch those outdoor photographers and writers. They're tricky.

Nice keepsake of your dad.

That's called a "Picture Fish." Some writers take one along in the live well in case none are caught while interviewing the subject. A certain TV host was notorious for carrying Picture Fish along just in case. It's not a good idea, as word always gets out and we lose credibility.

However...it's OK if you catch a big fish in location A, put her in a well and move to Location B on the same body of water so you have a better background. Just so long as you stay on the same lake or very close to the same location in a river or bay. That's an unwritten rule of good outdoor journalism. This is also a common practice if you're fishing with a guide or well-known local fisherman and he doesn't want to give away his secret spots. I did a story about JumpTrout and we had to go to Alabama so I could take the picture. :smt005
