I know it's the right time of year I'd like to try it.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions, techniques...

I have heard tales of using PVS pipes, swamp mud and bone/fish meal to attract them. Make mud balls with the mud and meal, let it harden and use PVC pipes to mark the spots....Then use a seine or cast net to catch them....This was in South Carolina, not sure if it will work down here....

 What Chalk said.
Also, look up shrimping in the regulations. You can't be more than "x" feet from the pvc poles you put out. And you can't put out more than "y" poles.
I don't remember the numbers...but they're there!
We've always had the best luck during the night time low tide. Always like to try around the mouths of creeks. tidal, salt creeks that is.
Drop a mud/meal ball over, stick a pole in next to it. Once you finish putting out the bait, turn around and go back to the first pole and start throwing the net.
