The wind was howling yesterday morning, I got the boat down to the hatch Sunday afternoon and ran south from the river to a couple of "almost always" trout spots and with high tide after 6 I was able to get into some creek mouths etc. and try for a red. I had to work hard for a couple of short trout (not skunked) and no love at all from the reds. This was near where the red tide was reported about 1/2 mile offshore so I was a little curious about that as well. No evidence of red tide that I could tell.
Fished north of the river Monday AM to 15 mph SE winds, the ride out was bumpy but once we got in close not bad other than any loose braid was a kite. Bites were hard to find from 2' - 6' on the outgoing tide.
Floating grass was horrible to the point I gave up on my regular jig heads and rigged a soft plastic jerk bait with an offset worm hook to fish weedless. That worked pretty well in the grass and produced 3-4 short trout plus two 17" and 1 20 1/2" trout right at the bottom of the tide in 4' of water. Went back later afternoon and no bites but the winds calmed to make a really nice evening.
Water temps were 80 - 81 in the afternoon and 78 in the morning. Water was clear but the floating grass was downright ugly.
