A small town USA Sunday

Post by Danibeth »

So today dawned a beautiful sunny morning, though that wasn't supposed to last. As we drive out of town, the bank thermometer is STILL stuck at 51 degrees, as it has been for two years, and we can see the American Flag that has been plowed into the hillside, which is a product of American pride, cheap diesel and expensive tractors.

We headed up the mountains to do some grouse hunting today and to just do some truck checking to see how the elk hunters have been doing. As I said, the beautiful weather didn't last the morning and the higher we went, the colder it got

Image

even in the snow you gotta watch out for road hunters

when it was clear that it was going to be snowier and snowier the further up the mountain we went, we headed down to an area that we thought looked good and said we'll come back to that. So off we went, and it wasn't too long before my black dog started getting excited. He still hasn't "turned on" but he is getting there. Suddenly a grouse flushed from the elderberry brush pile and down it came. My boys first grouse. After that he pushed three more grouse out of the same area, but sadly they went unmolested.

We walked some more and covered that little area. So off we went to try another area. We decided to head off to another canyon that we've worked before and see if we can get out of the wet.

On the way over the mountain we ran across some neat little birds that I was told that are definitely not a normal bird to find in this range. Grey crowned rosy finches

Image

We stopped at a few places to chase coveys of quail. Drake had several great pushes through the blackberries and was rewarded with quail for those great pushes.

But we were on a search for more grouse, because my boy was so turned on by grouse. there were several pushes through cover that was no longer wet, plus some neat views of elk and big horn sheep, but eventually we found another grouse for my boy. And what a stud he was

By that point it was close to quittin time and so to the top we went to head back to town

A gorgeous close to an outstanding day

Its important that jobs are created for our fellow citizens. Fishing creates work for the Skiff builders, the plastic worm molders , the hook benders etc. Hunting has the same scenario.
So, it is our patriotic duty to get out there and Hunt and fish every time we can!
