Off shore fishing , Ecofina Sept. 18th, 2004

Post by Carlabear »

:D Hope everyone is getting over all the storms and hurricaines safely and continues to do all right. We have been dodging the Huricaines on the east coast without too much success and with Ivan last week in the panhandle things haven't been too good for fishing for us but we did get into our grouper hole last Saturday.

The water was dingy greenish brownish out about 16 miles out of Ecofina but we got out to our usual spot aprox 18 miles out and the water turned nice and green. We trolled for a short time to the spot and didn't have any luck. I kekpt looking around for that rouge wave leftover from Ivan but thank goodness it was perfect off shore. Only light breeze on Saturday with 2's down to less than 2's in the afternoon.

We only had 2 boxes of elwise and 1 box of squid to get the bite turned on. We got to one spot and right before low tide caught 5 grouper. 3 reds and 2 gags. One gag over 20 pounds/ Caught some grunts and used them for cut bait and caught large grouper on this too.

Everything stopped till the tide started moving again. Caught a 10 foot nurse shark about 4 times so we moved .9 mile to another spot and anchored down. We caught our limit with 5 more grouper in the 20 lb range. Our ten fish filled up 150 quart cooler. and we were back on the hill by 300. NOt a bad day after a hurricaine!

We went out sunday but had to turn around due to a prop spun out so it was probably for the best and everyone was happy it happened close to the bird racks.

Looks like Jeane is going to interfere with our trip this weeknd but we might make the trip to ecofina. I havent been able to post in several weeks due to the weather. Boy am I tired of this :

Hope you all are safe and have a great weekend in the big bend! :D

"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
