Also a problem on numerous express boats trailers Pitting the bottom of their boats aluminum.

I'm sorry to hear about your issues, but I have also heard of these problems with G3. And mpa72001 is right about Xpress too. You can quickly find those issues using Google. I had an Xpress for a while and constantly worried about it after I talked to a guy at Keaton that showed me the holes in the transom of his boat. I can confidently say that none of my kayaks have ever had any hull pitting.

I do know from experience that carpeted runners and saltwater will combine for corrosion.

Hmmm. Maybe I need to pull the carpet off my bunks and put some glide-slicks on there instead. I would not be surprised if this is happening with my $4k Tracker hull.
With what they charge for a saltwater version of an Express or a G3 these days, I would be upset if there are structural problems.

no problems at all with my '05 Xpress and it is in salt practically weekly. I do wash it after each use. I've heard of the G3 issues; Wevans or Keyser can each share details. A lot of the manufacturers have trouble with their tunnel hulls; Triton, G3, Xpress, etc.
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.

Coastal Trailer and Hitch in Medart sells Glide-Slick kits at very reasonable prices. Got a set for my Rolls Trailer and they've held up very well.Steve Stinson wrote:Hmmm. A buddy of mine had a custom aluminum boat built recently by this place in Long Beach, MS.

The boat builder said under no circumstances should you use carpeted bunks with aluminum hulls that are ever dipped in salt water. He said all aluminum hulls even if painted will eventually corrode over the carpeted bunks. My friend had purchased his trailer elsewhere but replaced his carpet with vinyl gutter material he got at Home Depot. It fit the boards just right. May not be as good as glide sticks but a lot cheaper.

Had the same issue on my 2006 18' Xpress. Ate the bottom of the boat on one side where it sat on the bunk. Did however take several months for them to figure how to patch the holes properly, that was no bueno at all... Got the rubber bunk mats/ lifters from Jacks, screwed them on top of the bunk and good to go now. Never good when the bilge is steady running and both plugs are in...
