Wacissa river in a 17' boat?

Post by procraftwes »

I've got a 17' Proline CC and usually fish st marks.

The wife expressed and interest in checking out the springs(no kayaks).

I have a 4x4 Grand Cherokee with mud tires so a dirt ramp isn't a big deal.

The boat drafts about 11" loaded up with gear and 2 guys. On plane I'm not sure but I'd be idling around anyway.

I couldn't find anything in the regs about size limits but I also don't want to look like a jackwagon.

We went 2 weeks ago and saw plenty of larger duck hunting types of aluminum skiffs( camo line x w big mud engine) that were at least 18 feet. It does get shallow in places , but I think you will be fine. Beautiful river

I was thinking Idle speed.

I live within 10-15 minutes from there and sometimes you just want to use the boat for a couple hours.

A 17' Proline in the Wascissa River? Really? :o Big difference between a johnboat and a Proline but I guess you never know till you go.

Right, that was my point. It's been a while since I've been on that river and I expect the water level may be higher with the rain lately but I sure would be nervous trying to run that boat there.

Every time I've ever been, I've seen large bass boats on the river. You should be fine.

There is an old dam about half between the head waters and goose pasture. If you go downstream over it, I don't think you will be able to get back over it if you have to go upstream.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

I'd say thats a fair comparison.

Proline 17's do have a deep V with fairly high gunnels.

I probably wont try it for awhile as I keep my boat in St Marks and don't bring it home much.

Not to be pessimistic but I predict you find every rock in that river. I wish you luck.
