St. Marks 4-18-15

Post by lordsfisher »

Fished hard east from noon to 6:30 pm yesterday. Tough fishing with water that looked liked skim chocolate milk, with threatening rain, but never got wet. Very few strikes. Lost one decent red and one big trout. Caught and released a 17" red. Had one suspect spanish hit (cut the soft plastic). A few lady fish. I soaked 4" mullet the whole time and never got a strike. Tells you how bad it was. At 6 pm we were the only boat at Stoney Bayou. The most exciting part was catching and releasing a 40" bonehead, which is about as big as they get. He hit a live crab. Remind me not to fish in April. I prefer clear water and smooth water. I should take up turkey hunting, but I'm sure I'll have to go this week. ha ha

Glad you got out. Puffer fish love to chop off your plastics right behind the hook. April is usually great you just need to move far enough away from the river outflow to find clearer water. Or try Keaton it is usually much clearer than other places in the area.
