Between the radar, Weather channel, NOAA and the constant texts from various weather apps with severe thunderstorm warnings, tornado watches etc. we held at home until it was pretty clear that most of the severe weather was going well north of the coat. Headed down around 11:30 to be greeted by numerous boat loading and a 1/2 empty parking lot at the ramp. As I was unloading one of the guys loading mentioned that I had the weather figured out since they had gotten beat to death earlier.
Not so unfortunately, the wind never let up as I was hoping but we got out with just a minor spray in the face and got on with the fishing.
Water was stained and about 78 degrees. Started out in about 5' and worked our way in as the tide came in. Picked up two thick 18" trout and several shorts between 4' and 5' using soft plastics and a couple of puffer fish to boot, released both as I'm no fugu chef
Finished up the incoming tide real shallow and got a short and a nice mid-slot redfish on a gold spoon and 3 short reds on a gulp shrimp/jig. Drug a gulp shrimp behind the boat on a popping cork and got no takers at all. Boat control was a challenge between the wind gusts and getting all wrapped up in any loose braid that might be coming from the back of the boat.
Kept the Garmin on the weather radar the whole time as wanted to avoid a t-storm if any showed up. Stayed cloudy the whole time but never anything remotely close storm wise, was interesting to see the NOAA marine warning pop up for the Cape San Blas area and see all the reds and purples on the radar along with lightning symbols etc. glad we were not in MB for that.
Hit Roy's for some fried shrimp on the way home, 2 FWC trucks at the ramp but no boat trailers and did not get checked this time. Maybe they were getting ready for scallop season...
