Steinhatchee Info?
Ok,
Looking at going to Steinhatchee Saturday fishing. I've only been in the river the past 3 times I've been, but wanting to head south this time near the mouth of the creeks that dump out just north of Pine Log Island. Is there anything I need to know fishing this area? I know it's pretty shallow out. A buddy of mine says he goes south once he hits Marker #7. Any tips? Once I get out should I just drift until I find the fish? Sorry so many questions, just don't want to be caught anymore by surprise than I already will be.

Re: Steinhatchee Info?
Look at a map. After you pass the bars that line the channel about half way out on the south side, you can turn and burn. There is a sandbar out near the end of the channel on the left side. If you get too close to shore there are rocks that will catch you. I generally run out close to the birdrack and then turn south.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
Re: Steinhatchee Info?
What MD said... I tend to run out to the end of the channel on extreme low tides but going South I cut out past #8 this past Saturday near low tide on plane without issue, I have bumped the sand bar on that side when settled down in the water. YMMV
Plenty of rocks including where you think you can jump up on plane without risk so just be aware, when the chart shows "Rocky" count on it. Where it says something else don't think there isn't a rock there
We've been doing better on redfish than trout between Rocky Creek and Pepperfish... up in the rocks of course. Had one friend say trout were a little better on the other side of Pepperfish.

Re: Steinhatchee Info?
Do you launch from the ramp in rocky creek? or have you ever? I know it's just a sand ramp.. kind of sketchy sounding to me I've never been there before though. the area I want to fish is a lot closer to this ramp than the one in the river...
Re: Steinhatchee Info?
I launch at the river either public ramp. I doubt I could get my boat out of Rocky Creek, been "slightly" stuck in there on a falling tide and Rocky Creek is rocky, real rocky
I do have a friend who has a flats boat that launches out of rocky creek but he says it takes high tide for him to get in and out so he is careful to time his fishing to the tides, not sure what that means to anything bigger than a jon boat.

Re: Steinhatchee Info?
Yeah it looked reallllly shallow on the satellite maps from google.. I have the 16ft key west explorer.. it drafts really shallow but I don't think I want to put in and try it in the creek.. would be my luck I couldn't get out and would have to load back up haha.
Re: Steinhatchee Info?
So basically this is what I would want to do?

Re: Steinhatchee Info?
Pretty much, by the way are your chart depth units set to meters? About freaked out when I saw those numbers
