Fished the falling tide all day. Started south near grassy with calm seas and water temp around 78 degrees. We were greeted with a lot of boats but not much action. Fished from 1.5 feet to 6 feet and didn't pick up any keeper trout with 4 guys fishing hard. We did manage 1 Spanish but that was it. Came in to get some lunch and saw some commotion at the beach. It appeared an offshore boat brought a guy in who was bent from diving.... The new Cracker Jack lunch spot has awesome fish tacos BTW but kinda of pricey!!!
Went north for the afternoon and found a few around adams beach but it was tough getting a strong bite. All keepers barely hit our live shrimp. We threw everything in the box and only managed catfish, shark and a
Lady fish with other baits. Hoping for better success tomorrow.
Anybody do any good today?

Dang, hate to hear that. I want to go Monday, thought the bite at Keaton would be better. WTG sticking it out on a tough day. I might try north of Rock Island, read a good report from there from Wed. Were yall able to catch any bait?

bigblister: We were down that same day with four other boats. Three keeper trout were caught. We fish all artificial bait both south and north. We never found the trout. Might should have bought a few shrimp?

Fished there last weekend and the same story. Fished Fri-Sun and managed only five keeper trout and one flounder. Fished everything under the sun including shrimp and pinfish. Didn't catch a thing on live bait. Two of the trout came on plugs and the other three on Gulp new penny under cork. Was hoping it was just a bad weekend but I guess not.

Been a tough spring for sure, with no area really producing up to historic norms. But a slow day on the water...

Gonna be a few years before much of the Big Bend recovers from last Sept's Red Tide. Lots of fish and other marine life disappeared with that out break. Those types of incidents take years to recovery from. Expect some tighter fishing regs due to mother natures cruel trick. I suspect some folks will grumble, and then disagree........ but I've been hearing from some longtime fisherman in that area............ and this what they are saying.
Nature has it's own clock........... it was here long before we were fishing......... and will be here long after. Wonder how much "All of these fishing regs" will have to do with fish populations......... 50yrs from now? IMHO, things like Red Tide, coastal develop aka habitat destruction, and dumping all sorts of things; have a far greater affect on future fish populations......... than some recreational fisherman catching/keeping 5,10, or 20 trout.

Re: Keaton 5.9
Sunday was more of the same for us so we packed it in early.
We caught more fish this winter than we have the past 2 trips.. We spoke to the mullet guy over on bird island and he said he has seen few fish while getting mullet.
