Rough day Sat.
Man, what a day. I had the best of intentions but it didn't all work out as I had hoped. Fun, nevertheless! I decided to go solo and planned to hit the water before sunlight to be in position for some top water action. I left the house around 5:00. I was nearly half way and thinking about breakfast at Savanna's and realized I forgot my money clip. Damn, I thought Strike 1. I scrounged around for some change as I was driving and found $2.18. That was enough for a cup of coffee. I stopped at the Kangaroo gas station and poured a tall one for $1.69. I got to the counter and read a sign promoting a $2 special that included a coffee and breakfast sausage. Only one catch, however, was that it included a medium and I already poured a large. I explained my situation to the clerk and she said she would let the large pass. (Nice lady!) Only one problem though, she said, they didn't have breakfast sausage but I could have a hot dog. Sold!
I got to my boat and jumped aboard with plenty of time to spare. I was so excited. I heard a strange humming sound though. As I investigated, I found my bilge pump had been left on. Still enough power to power the pump but not the engine...Strike 2. I had to wait for more than an hour for Shields to open and get a jump. By this time, I was going to be late getting to my spot. I so wanted to welcome the redfish at sunrise. : ( I finally made it to the spot and didn't catch anything. I ran into Greenbone, which was a nice surprise. We tagged teamed for a few hours and tried several areas and depths east of the lighthouse. His guest caught a very repectable trout near the bouy line. He had to break off and retrieve his crab traps.
It was approaching lunch and I decided to troll for some mackerel and checkout structure and channel markers for cobia. No luck there and around 3:00 I decided to call it a day with only some pinfish to claim. Strike 3. It was still a great day. A bunch of people were enjoying the sandbar.

So glad you came back alive with all that bad luck. Sometimes it goes like that. Hope you have better luck next time!

Thanks for an honest report, Ken. Way to stick with it. Not every trip is a banner one, despite what all those outdoor writers might say.

Re: Rough day Sat.
$2 will get you a decent breakfast at savannahs. They actually have 2 breakfast specials($2). Sometimes I'll splurge and get both. 2 eggs, grits, toast, bacon and a short stack for $4. If you can do better for $2-4, I don't know where it is. Sorry about get luck Ken. Maybe next time.

Yep. I love Savannahs. Its a great way to start the day. Tip and a coffee would have taken more than my $2.18. I need to keep a rainy day stash in my truck.

I hear ya got half way to Steinhatchee Saturday and realized boat keys were in the other truck... when wifey-poo asked if we had to turn around I just smiled and said you know about all those complaints you have when I get boxes from UPS, Fed-Ex and USPS... well one of them had spare boat keys and I stashed one in the boat so no reason to turn around today
Based on my report (see post) I would have been better off turning around... surprised she hasn't caught that yet.

Hey gentlemen I would like to know where Savannah's is so i could try their food. I fish out of St. Marks and Lanark Village. Thanks I think it would be a great place to try before going out.
Re: Rough day Sat.
It's on Woodville Highway right before State Road 98. On the way to St. Mark's. They open at 5 AM.
