3623 Members and hardly any reports??

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

:smt102 Wonder why so few reports any more? I challenge any member that goes fishing to post a report(good or bad). I post every trip no matter how it goes, and lately they have all been bad. We need to get this site's activity back to where it was. I miss reading all the reports. :-D

Couldn't agree more. Im fairly new to the forum but I am VERY grateful to those who share after a trip on the water. I spent most of my life fishing fresh water and only started inshore fishing a few years ago ( with deep regrets of the years I missed chasing trout, redfish etc). Collectively, the members here have "hundreds of years of experience" and a wealth of knowledge. A very sincere THANK YOU to those who post. salute3

Good word!
The spring trout bite has been off for most folks and its less fun to post about a bad trip.
But all the info helps.

It is nice to know where - but water depth, temp and bait is more important to me.

Ok, I went late yesterday.

Hung and fought a good red to the boat around 3pm, either the line boke or my knot slipped out, but he got off as I grabbed the net.
Shortly after that I hung a bigazz stingray.
After 4 hrs called it a day, but it was a day on the water! :-D

Others at the landing reported zeroes.

On the water at 7:00 yesterday just east of the light house (in front of the cell tower) between 3 and 4 feet of water. Caught 3 trout (2 shorts and 1 keeper). Shrimp under a popping cork. Caught a couple of cats and my fishing buddy had a big spanish hit a pin fish but didn't hook up.The usual lady fish or two to round out the morning. Back on the trailer by 10:45 and off to work. Looks like smooth water tomorrow and if the rain holds off, gonna make a run to the rock garden.

here you go:

Went out last Thursday of a ramp not to far from here:
Out catching bait and decided to throw topwater: heavy upperslot trout slamming them everywhere. left them biting to chase bigger fish

Fish caught: Kings, Spannish, Cobia, Trout... didn't attempt reds, but saw a couple. depths ranged from 2-4' and spotty bottom, to a bit deeper.

Live bait caught fish, but artificials absolutely slayed them. Find the bait find the fish.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

:-D Well that is better. I plan on a fishing scallop scouting trip in a couple weeks. I hope to find some of both. I will post the results. :-D

Went out of Aucilla Saturday 30th with Stinson.
We caught trout/reds/sheephead and flounder.
He caught some catfish,I caught a few ladyfish.
Fished the grass line out to 7 feet.
Saw bait fish at the grass line.
Every boat we saw were fishing my holes.

I did not fish this weekend ,I did talk to a few people that went out some did good in the morning
But no fish in the afternoon , there were some that did better in the afternoon than they did in the morning , most of the people I talk to were using live bait ,shrimp
One thing about the speed of light it gets here too early in the morning

Friday: went out to Ochlock Bay in my kayak. Used live shrimp under a poppin' cork, an Aqua Dream gold spoon, and a Spook Jr. Skrimp caught catfish, top water caught a huge catfish, and the spoon didn't get anything; but at least no catfish.

Sunday went out to Carrabelle Flats on kayak but the storms seemed to have really stirred things up. I didn't even land a catfish.

The water clarity really wasn't there this weekend. I go out on my kayak a lot so I'll start posting more reports.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you put in?
I'm really new to kayaking and I'm planning on going one day this week. I have seen posts about bottoms road and also Bald Point.
Any advice?

For Ochklocknee Bay I like to drop in at the public ramp right off 98 on the Franklin Co. side. I paddle to the middle of the bay, just about under the bridge, and drift. Before long you have a choice between cutting to mashes sands or west to bald point and those oyster bars. You can end up drifting quite fast if the tide is rushing out so you'll absolutely need an anchor. Also keep the direction of the tide in mind for the return. It's's not a far paddle from Bald Point to 98, but with the river current, tide, and wind against you, it can be brutal. You can always put in right at Bald Point, but I like to paddle and get the exercise while I'm out there.

To get to the flats around Carrabelle I drop in at Carrabelle and just paddle good and out there once I'm out of the mouth of the river. I like to take a left, but I've never taken a right out of the river; I may try it next time. I try to stay out of the big boats' way in any case.

I haven't tried Bottoms Road yet, my buddies go out to Piney Island for duck hunting, but it's on my list. I also like dropping in at Wakulla Beach a lot too, there is a lot less boat traffic out there. Heard good things about Levy Bay too, but haven't made a trip out yet.

just spend 4 days in cedar key with my son and my wife and daughter(both grown) fished all four days, in total 78 trout and 4 sm. all were caught either at seahorse reef or in 6 to 7 fee of water, we used gulp didn't really seem to matter what color. all fish traveled back to Winder Ga. for a fish fry at the school he is a teacher at.
