Keaton 5-30

Post by Ctb924 »

New to forum and haven't posted much, mainly due to slow fishing, but here goes: My buddy and I decided to give Keaton a try yesterday and just as the forecast said, the weather was beautiful. We took the wives so half the day I worked like a charter captain. Put in around lunch to fish the outgoing. Worked our way in from 9ft to 3 ft throwing ct's with gulp and live shrimp, soft jerk baits, and some top water when the floating grass would allow. Finally caught a keeper trout and a couple shorts about 4pm in 4ft. However, it was time to go home to pick up the kids so we couldn't keep at em. Water was crystal clear and temp was approaching 83. Lots of grass and pins. Trout were caught on live shrimp.

:-D Welcome to the forum and thanks for the report. Did you notice any scallops in the clear water? :-D

We were at the beach at Keaton with our family yesterday. There were a lot of boats going out, most looked to be going north. Next time I go, I'll have my boat. :P Glad ya got out and caught some.

Yes, there were some scallops around. Noticed them a couple times in about 5ft

Thanks for the report. Fishing has been hard this year. Next time try the transition water somewhere between Keaton and Spring Warrior where the dark water meets the clear. You want to be on the edge of the two, in the mix, and follow it as close inshore to as far out as you can. Keep changing baits and colors until you find what they want.

Good luck and keep those good reports coming.

Thanks for the tips! This is my first year with my own boat so there has been a learning curve, but I'm getting there.
