Crazy idea. Anybody ever tried this?
Looks like the weather is gonna be perfect tomorrow and Im going to make the run from the light house. Im seeing Spanish on the flats in fairly good numbers. Going to try trolling a Clark spoon on the flats under a cork just shallow enough to keep it out of the grass. Trolling motor will push the boat with the current pretty fast. Has anybody tried this before?

No but it sounds good. Tell how it works. You just may start a new trend!

Sounds like a good plan. I'm looking forward to hearing the results.

have you tried this before? trolling a float is going to make your line more susceptible to collect any grass you come across, as well as creating another pivot point for the line with increased pressure on those points.
I'd honestly think you'd have better luck with something like this:
---main line-----(WEIGHT)-0(SWIVEL)0------wire or heavy gauge fluoro-----clark spoon
but then again, they may swipe at the swivel (they're so dumb they swipe at mcdonalds straws!
)
or maybe just
---main line-----(your knot of choice)----heavy gauge fluoro---(WEIGHT)---clark spoon
I hope you prove me wrong though!!! always fun to see those floats scream across the surface!

Something else to try..Take a clear bubble cork fill it halfway with water, then put a spoon 4' down on at least a 30lb mono leader. Cast it as far as you can and reel like mad. The faster the better. this is a Pat McGriff tip from Woods and water some time back. You could also hang a chum bag and float live shrimp in the slick.

The bubble floats have been around long before McGriff stumbled south.
