One -Fish and I have hit some of the same rocks . There are more both in the pass and in the bayou on each side of his X marked spot.
I started out running that river with a 21' Sea Pro bay boat. Fixed that one twice and took an aluminum boat / jet foot on trade when I sold it. I have torn the jet foot motor up once and had it fixed (thanks to Progressive Ins. and Parkway Marine). Then I split the Monark hull out near Black Rock a couple years ago and sunk down to the gunnels, but the motor ran nearly underwater for 4 miles to get me back to the lighthouse ramp. Being rather fond of that old Mercury jet motor by then, I bought another hull and swapped the motor and electronics over to the new hull.
Despite all of the above-described adventures I still have somebody jump in behind me nearly every time I run down the river.
In the interest of fairness and good sportsmanship I reviewed this map info very carefully and after studying GoogleEarth Pro, my Navionics and Garmin charts as well as some frank discussions with my Bay Reef and Yamaha as well as my insurance agent I am posting a map update that may be helpful to all those who might seek assistance with navigating the Aucilla in anything other than a dugout canoe, roto-molded kayak and/or something you care little to nothing about...
What Jumptrout failed to mention in his earlier post is that as we were standing in JR"s parking lot watching the guy who lost the trailer wheel limp out of the road, JR was telling me that he had just returned to his store after hauling in somebody who had torn the foot completely off of their motor in the river about 11:00 am. last Saturday.
The new Aucilla ramp and parking lot were more crowded than I've seen them in years last weekend, so I think we will see a lot more of this in the near future.
