Fall Flounder Run?

Post by Redbelly »

Is there such a thing?

I like flounder best of all. Is there a certain way or palce to fish for them this fall?

What about Pompano? How long does the fall run last?

Been doing good on my last freshwater trips.....now I'm getting salt fever!

The flounder definately get on the move in the fall. Unlike other gulf species, they actually head for deeper water. Drift around open holes in the grass, structure and rock piles in 8 - 40 feet of water with a bull minnow on the bottom. One of the hottest founder spots is just outside the jetties of St. Andrews pass in PC. The flounder over their do not get near as much pressure, but they are plentiful all over the big bend. The only challenge you will have later in the fall is keeping the baby grouper off of your rig in deeper water. They can't resist a bull minnow.

Can't tell you much about the pompano, they aren't as predictable. Only one word of advice for a sure bet on them is Sand Fleas. Get some Sand Fleas and fish deep holes along the break on the beach. Just off the beach at Cape San Blas and about 1/2 mile around from the east jetty at St. Andrews (PC) are good places to start. Drift or anchor casting distance from the hole and just watch and wait. Good Luck!!

From shore the intercoastal at St Joe is really starting to pick up. Also, the passes Dog/St George are real good in the fall. Bull minnows slow on a jig are the ticket.

I so much wanted to do some serious, out-in-the-woods giggin' this year, but things kinda got away from me. Is it gettin' too late? In a few weeks, will the flatties be too deep? Whaddya think the odds are that in late October I can gig?
