25hp issue

Post by bocephus »

I have a 91 nissan 25hp outboard that cranks on the first or second pull idles in neutral perfect but as soon as you put it in gear it shuts off unless you throw it in forward and gun it then it runs perfectly. It seems to only sputter and die when going really slow at idle speed or if you don't gun it when put in gear ... Any suggestions?

...sorry, too much coffee right now!

But really..
clean the carb(s) lately?
have an idle adjustment screw you can adjust to raise the idle?
compression test?

and are you using regular fuel in your tank or ethanol free?

Dirty low speed carb jets.
Seafoam might correct it.
Change the fuel filter and add Seafoam.
Ethanol fuel may cause fuel line disintegration.
