After Work Trip 7/14
My nephews have been begging my sister for a boat ride and some fishing. Weekends have been slam packed so we went yesterday after I got off work at 5. Plan was to drive around in the boat, catch some pinfish and then put those out for sharks and maybe a lucky trout. We were met by an impressive storm in Woodville that was headed straight for the Lighthouse. I decided to pull an audible and go to Shell Point which looked like it would be less affected by the storm. We broke out the Zebcos and frozen shrimp from Walmart. They didn't even have the bait shrimp at Walmart so I actually had to buy them out of the Seafood section for $6.. They worked great! With the negative low tide approaching and storm to our west, I decided to try around an oyster bar, rather than on grass flats for the pinfish. Our rigs consisted of a small hook with a split shot sinker fishing right alongside the bar. We caught quite a few catfish, including one huge sail cat that worked the Zebco really hard and the boys loved. The highlight was that each nephew got one puppy red which was awesome! Age 6 and age 4 and already caught their first redfish. We broke off one fish that I think was a slot red but it was on the smaller of the two combos we had and whooped it pretty good. It's funny what happens sometimes when you go back to the basics.. I don't think my dad and I have caught more than 2 redfish in the past 3 trips!

Great stuff there, Luc. Those boys will remember that for the rest of their lives and will hopefully continue with the sport as a result.
Some beautiful photos too.
Pretty work!

Nothing gets a kid more excited than catching a fish. If you weren't the favorite uncle before, you are now. Ive got a nephew in his mode 30's that still talks about me taking him fishing when he was the age of those boys. Awesome!

Great trip with great results. It doesn't get much better than that, and they will be hooked on fishing for a long time. Good work Uncle Luc.

Great pics of some happy young men!

Now THOSE boys can FISH!
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

2 happy boys! Glad they got on some fish. I have used frozen Wal-Mart shrimp for years now, and it has always worked well.
