Keaton Beach 7/18

Post by leonreno »

Fished from 10am until 6 pm. Bite was sporadic, three of us managed 5 keeper trout, three sharks all about 2 feet long, and handful of short trout with a good sprinkling of catfish and three keeper Black Sea bass. It was hot but manageable. Saw the scallop armada around Dekle Beach, morning low tide, must have been 60+ boats in 5 acres of water, crazy to see, we kept or distance from that craziness.

Only picture I have was one of the sharks:

Forgot to add, most fish from 4-7 feet with cut bait or gulp under corks.

A hard days work but beats anything else! Must be still hard to find the trout.

Rain and haying has kept us home but we're about ready to give it a try.

Thanks for the post.

 Thanks for posting. This time of year, we usually go out to catch 2-3 ft. sharks to keep a couple to eat. Trout just seem hard to come by.

Well, the sharks were fun to catch, they would make a really fast hard first run and a couple of other runs after the first. Don't know how we did it but we caught three bad lost another due to pulled hook without a cut off on 20lb fluorocarbon. Does anyone know the species of that shark?

I think I see white spots, so I would guess a Sharpnose. I will let the experts chime in. I am not. ;-)
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?

That would be my guess too... but you have to look at the dorsal fin / side fin alignment.
