September 30--East of lighthouse

Met Butch at the ramp at 1pm. He let his friend Pat off the boat because he had to leave early(honey do's). They had caught 8 keepers 17& 18 inches. We went east and started near the rock garden. Water temp 80 ,color real stained,wind from sw @ 7mph. We returned at 6pm with 7 nice trout from 17-21 inches and one red @ 21". Straight grubs,ct,topwater and jerkbaits. We released another 9or 10 keepers upto 17", and about 30 shorts.

I guess we can assume you caught em yesterday (29th?) Did you get close to the grass or stay out aways?

Yup. Yesterday,Wednesday. Everthing came from 1/2 mile or closer to shore.

Once again, another new comer question, is there a chart available with the landmarks that are utilized in your discussions. I know where the bird rack is and the shallows to the east, but what about the rock garden and some of the oyster bars in front of the lighthouse. I have used some of the bathymetric charts and OAR charts, but is there anything else? Thanks for the information, just trying to figure this water out.

TNrock, there is not a chart that labels the rock garden. Look on the noaa chart at the area between Stony Bayou and The aucilla river. The chart shows several obstructions and rocks. Grey mare, as well as several other rocks are shown on the chart. That's the area locally known as, and affectionately referred to, as The Rock Garden. That area has beed the demise of many lower units.

Thank you for the information tin can. I will study the charts and do some exploring further east. I have mainly stayed within a mile or two of the lighthouse (to the east and west and south). This water is so shallow and full of rocks, oyster bars, and shallow grass areas, that I have yet to "comfortably" explore the area so I can let loose and get there quickly. I am learning and eager to find the areas yall talk about and fish. Thanks again.
