Steinhatchee

Post by jjewell99 »

Headed to Steinhatchee this Thursday - Sunday for some inshore fishing. Anybody got any recent fishing reports? Last year the red tide was bad and we ended up trailering to Keaton 3 days and did a lot better. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hearing the bite is picking up... had a buddy limit out around Keaton / Piney Point last weekend. Weather looks good this weekend, good luck and let us know how you do!

Fished there for the Oct. NFGFC a few weeks back. The fishing was good, we caught trout and reds to the south by Bird Island. Lots of rock grass, just find a patch and start drifting. The grass was bad so if its still that way plan on using weedless lures and jigs... A lot of nice fish were brought in during the tournament. Go for it!!

We fished 4 days and probably caught well over 200 trout. Fish were biting like crazy but seemed like we would catch 10 shorts to ever keeper. We did seem to get on some good groups of keepers around the rock grass outside bull cove. Seemed like white gulp was the best but honestly about anything would work. Jerk shad gulp on a 1/16 jig worked good too. Caught several sea bass, spanish, and flounder too. We caught 10-12 reds but only one keeper. We fished from Piney Point to the north to Bull Cove south and found fish about every place we stopped. My guess is that April and May will be red hot when all those 13-14 inch fish reach 15. The only concern was that the biggest trout we caught was 19.

Awesome.
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.
