Looks like its going to be total destruction for central Mexico. 200 mph sustained, 245 mph gusts. Total devastation.

Definitely a strong storm but the strongest winds are really concentrated, per the 11:00 AM update:

3. At this time, the category 5 winds are occurring over a very
small area near the center - about 15 miles across. A NOAA
hurricane hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate Patricia
before landfall to see what changes in intensity and structure have
occurred.


While the winds in the core are going to do a lot of damage it appears that will be in a relatively small area (unless you happen to be in it). The rain and resulting flash floods will probably do the most damage over a wide area.

Not a good place to be in the next 24 - 36 hours either way...
