AGP/Clam Farm Launch!
Very interested in dropping my smaller boat off the sand ramp just off 98 and fishing the AGP/Clam Farm area this winter! Anybody done this and could give me a heads up on running around this maze??

When did you buy a kayak?
Unless you have four-wheel drive and can dry launch the HB, you'll have a tough time launching there. No drop-off to speak off and with the north winds/negative lows you can walk to the lease area.
Best bet is the Lanark Village ramp, although I've had to pole out the channel there a couple times during the winter. Still not a far run and sheltered behind Lanark Reef for a good bit. The sea fog can get thicker than clam chowder at times too.

Re: AGP/Clam Farm Launch!
Actually the wife did purchase a kayak to fish out of when I am not in Carrabelle, so "YES" that is an option!! Never stopped and checked out the ramp, but with owning a dry launch boat that floats in 3" of water, I thought it would be do-able there. Not to mention I hear the winter fishing is good in that bay!
Never hurts to ask!!

Re: AGP/Clam Farm Launch!
Andrew and I have launched at the dirt ramp off US-98 with a little innovation. We unhooked the winch strap, pulled about 10 feet of strap out and looped it around the first cross beam on the trailer, then back to the bow eye on the boat. Back the entire rig into the water (with a 4x4 truck). Then start cranking on the winch, which now pulls the boat backwards and off the trailer. Drive out from under the boat and go fish.
Retrieving my rig is no problem either as long as I can get the tail end of the bunk boards lower than the bow of my boat (they don't have to be in the water).
Of course, I wouldn't try all this with an expensive rig (like a Bayshore or something similar).

Seems like the ramp at the upper end of the bay on Sun and Sand road would be a much better launch option. The Tarpon boys use that thing every day all spring and summer. Protected run out to the clams. Just my $.02

Re: AGP/Clam Farm Launch!
Didn't say it couldn't be done, only that it might be challenging with the extreme winter conditions. But you'd be wasting your time, Bonecracker. All the redfish and trout will have migrated to the LA oil rigs by then.
I never attempted to launch the Bayshore there and almost got stuck in the sand multiple times at Surf and Sand or the private ramp at Alligator Point Marina. But I don't have 4 x 4, either. Stinson, I'm going to start calling you McGyver.
