Jet boaters input please

Post by coyotebgone »

I like to fish Aucilla River area. Up until now I have used a go devil long tail, worked great but caused a lot a back problems. Boat has been sold and now looking for alternatives. Based on my limited experience, this area would eat fiberglass boats for lunch (shallow, oyster etc etc etc). I was considering purchasing a jet foot outboard boat. (16 to 18 foot range with a lot of beam).

I understand all the horsepower conversion issues. My question is how many of you jet boaters run this area? Can you give me some insight into your satisfaction with this type of engine.

Other alternatives is
Tunnel prop boat
Standard Jon Boat.

Thanks for you thoughts.

I have not seen a jet foot motor operating anywhere in our area except for the one I ride in.
Steve Stinson has a 40 hp Mercury on a 18 foot metal boat.
It will run where a prop motor has to idle.
Occasionally you must stop and clear the intake of weeds.
WHOSE FISH IS IT?

If you are considering the investment, give me a call and we will take an extended ride. I will show you everything the boat will do and also what it will not do (turn sharp, go fast, or run through weeds). Your power loss converting from prop to jet is about 30%. My motor is a 60 hp powerhead rated at 40 hp due to the jet. It is mounted on a Tracker 1860 hull.

We would launch someplace with sandy bottom and clear water, probably Lanark, so you can truly see what we are running through, and I can push the limits without damaging the boat. Feel free to call me at 509-3116.

I have been happy enough with my jet foot that I would buy another one.
