Gheenoes

Post by TheRealMayor »

I am trying to find a gheenoe 15'4" highsider with a 9.9-15 hp motor for $1500. Anyone have suggestions on where to look?

I've seen them pop up from time to time on Craig's List in that price range. You'll have to act quick and be ready with cash, though.

Another source is the used boats listings or the forum on http://www.customgheenoe.com

Good luck with your search.

Thank you, silverking. I've been searching craigslist for about 2 months and whenever I see one, it's already sold. I will check out customgheenoe.com though

This one's a little out of your price range, but you never know what they'll sell it for.

I would search Craigslist in Tallahassee and surrounding areas and like Silverking said, be ready to pounce when it's listed. To get a really good deal, you need to be ready to travel a few hours to pick it up. My dad just bought a 15'4" Highsider in Orlando on a trailer for $400. My advice would be to buy the boat and trailer and then look for a used motor separately. Craigslist is full of used motors for sale in the $500-800 range and I think with a little patience on your end you can find a boat and trailer for less than $800.

I've owned three different ones now, but all three of them needed work. You'd be surprised what a little fiberglass work and a coat of paint will do. Just takes time and sweat. Don't be scared off if it needs glass work done, I'm convinced you can learn just about anything on YouTube.

One final note, CHECK THE TRANSOM to make sure it's not rotten before you buy it. If you still decide to make the purchase, replace the transom at the beginning of the project...ask me how I know...

I'm not sure how different mine is from the highsider (I would guess mine is the classic), but I still have this one available:
