Rastus and I took our boys down to St. Marks for a day of father/son fishing action. We launched from Shields around 10am on a falling tide. Air temp was in the mid 60's. Wind about 1-2 mph. Started at the power plant with no luck. The noseeums had more luck on us and the kids were growing intolerant of the little boogers. Note to self: always pack bug spray. With that said we picked up some bug spray from the marina and headed down the river.
We fished the bottom between markers 57-53; casting towards the middle of the river. Around 1 pm Rastus landed 3 fish one after another (2 trout and a lady fish) and continued catching fish in this general area until 4:15pm. Rastus had more luck dragging the bottom than hopping the baits. We made it as far as Fourmile Point in hopes of landing a redfish or flounder but no bites. The kids unfortunately didn't want to fish much after the power plant but they had fun touching the fish that Rastus and I caught and entertaining themselves and us when the fishing was slow. All fish caught by Rastus (7 trout, 2 keepers, and 1 lady fish) were on a Gulp New Penny shrimp hooked on a jig. My one fish...DOA glow in the dark shrimp on a 3/8 chartreuse jig. An unexpected productive fishing day that turned out awesome! Enjoy the video and photos
