How do you guys rig Grubs?
Do you just use a plain hook, or do you slap on a jig head?
As said either on a CT or just straight line. I will usually try both. Sometimes the CT works better sometime no CT works better and sometimes both work well equally or not well equally. Usually I will fish one way and my partner the other until we find the right pattern. If you fish with the CT tie on a 18" - 24" (this average, sometimes longer is better during the summer months when they are deeper than 5 feet) But if they are shallow try above. I usually use 1/4 jig heads (usually salt assassin heads) But you can use striaght hook if they are holding in real shallow water. Here is my prefered jigging method with CT and grub. Cast rig out and as soon as it hits the water give it a couple of short but hard snaps to make some noise. Then let it settle for about 10 -15 seconds. I have notice a majority of the strikes I get come in the first few snaps of the rod. If nothing happens then snap the rod again to make the CT pop and rattle. Let it settle again, I usually let it settle til I hear the brass beads slide back down the wire (you can hear them pretty far off). When the water is calmer I usually make the pops a little calmer and when its choppy I really work the CT harder to make more noise. Play around and you will find what works.mojokoko wrote:how do you guys usually jig them?
Now when I use just a straight grub I will cast it out let it sink then pop it up and down usually not to fast. I try to imagine the grub popping up and the wait till I think its close to the bottom again until jigging it again. Sometimes you can pop is hard, sometimes softer depends on the fish's willingness to be aggressive. If they are less aggressive I will work it slower to try and intice them longer. You can also swim it back to you quickly with small twitches like working a jerkbait, works good when they are aggressive, also works better for Spanish Mackeral and Bluefish.
My biggest tip is to try and cast as far as you can, it will help you get more bites. Trout are weary and easily spooked. The father you cast the more successfull you will be. I use 7'6" medium rods to cast further may try an 8' rod soon.
Good Luck

I use a power pro leader on mine unless the spanish are in the area then I change to a steel leader. To make it all work with the steel leader I use 30 lb power pro to tie the top swivel of the leader to the bottom swivel on the CT. I make 5 or 6 loops around the two swivel eyes as they are layed on top of each other then finish it off with a uni knot. I have never had a break with this method.
