March 29 2016 Bald Point

Took a buddy out to Bald Point at around 430 to fish off of the point. We were casting towards, but outside of the bars. Using spoiling dinner sized shrimp as bait. We found that the shrimp chunks were working a lot better than using a whole shrimp. First fish was a pinfish. Then things got interesting. My buddy pulled in 2 black drum at 17 and 20 inches, I caught a series of puffer fish, a catfish, and had a drum spit my hook. Then the redfish started biting. My buddy got a red just above 20. I caught a puppy red, a smaller drum at about 15 (we let him go), and lost what fought like a big angry barely hooked red. As the ranger came out giving us our 20 minutes to close warning, I hooked my keeper red right at 20 inches too.

Funny how two guys can have their bait sitting in the same spot and one guy will be getting all the bites and the other sits and pouts. I pouted for the first hr and a half until it was my buddy's turn to sit and watch. But in the end, we both got our fish. Not bad for 2 and a half hours of getting chewed up by noseeums.

That's all right, fellers. I always read where fresh shrimp does better for reds, but it sounds like it didn't matter today. WTG.
